It can easily be said that pointing a camera nearly anywhere on Nantucket will take a pretty picture, but all jokes aside, we at Congdon & Coleman Real Estate have come up with a list of not-to-miss “insta-worthy” backgrounds for the perfect photo opportunity that is only missing one key component: you. So, snap away with these jaw-dropping suggestions!
The View at Steps Beach
The view from the top of Steps Beach is one of the most photographed on island and for good reason. After all, Steps Beach earns its name from its wooden staircase down, and from its top offers a bird’s eye view onto not only the beach and flowering Rosa rugosa below but the crystal blue Nantucket Sound and sailboats entering the harbor. We have also found there is no wrong time of day to attempt this shot! Maybe it’s just the beauty of the view but morning, day or sunset, this view just gets us every time.
The Ramp at Brant Point Lighthouse
Weddings, proposals and family portraits all happen at Brant Point, a gorgeously picturesque beach with our cherished Brant Point lighthouse. We recommend taking your photo pointed up the ramp which leads to the lighthouse door, offering a perfectly framed picture of Nantucket and, well, you.
The End of Straight Wharf Among the Mega-Yachts
You don’t have to be a billionaire to pose in front of mega-yacht, so dress yourself up and head down to the end of Straight Wharf where the world’s richest 1% park their sea-faring vessels, typically complete with helicopter pads, swimming pools and a formal dining room, natch. Regardless of the pictures you get, this is people watching at its finest.
Madaket Sunsets
Honestly, any sunset on Nantucket will do, but on the far western shores of Madaket, dozens gather to watch the sun dip into the Atlantic. We recommend ditching the crowds and running amok at Starbuck Beach, snapping away at yourself and loved ones in that famous pink light, known locally as “magic hour.”
Lower India Street in Downtown Nantucket
There’s a ton of great backdrops in downtown Nantucket (the Compass Rose, Stone Alley, or the fountain, to name a few) but there’s just something about lower India Street that just hits different. With its charming cobblestone and red brick sidewalks, it somehow reminds us of some small village in Europe, or a fairy tale setting, or both.
