Located on the northern shore of Nantucket and facing the Cape Cod coastline, Jetties beach is one of the most captivating and fun destinations. The beach is a mile from downtown Nantucket along North Beach Street.
It earned its name from its proximity to the Jetties that protrude at the Nantucket harbor entrance. The shallow beach is cushioned from the heavy surf familiar with the southern beaches making it an ideal getaway for families with young kids.
To get to Jetties beach, you can ride a bike or take the NRTA Wave shuttle that operates every 30 minutes between 10:15 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. The transport cost is also quite affordable at $2.00 each way.
The beach has lifeguards, a playground, changing rooms, beach chairs, umbrellas, restrooms, showers, and concessions. Furthermore, there’s a tennis court, volleyball court, water fountain, and kayak rental.
You’ll find a Mobi Mat 380 feet long that extends from the parking lot to the beach to help you walk easily on the soft sand while protecting the dunes.
The water is warm and the waves calm, perfect for windsurfing, swimming, sailing, and kayaking. Jetties is also an excellent place for finding sea glass and shells. The stunning views and endless shoreline make this beach a popular destination for vacationers looking for a one-of-a-kind experience.
Jetties Beach is a popular wedding destination and the venue for the annual concert: Boston Pops on Nantucket. It is also a fantastic spot for lip-smacking seafood. Head over to Sandbar for some fine dining and a quintessential beachfront experience. Everything is local here, and you can eat oysters for only $1 during happy hour. The shrimp tacos, lobster rolls, and fried clams are among the standouts on the menu.
