Nantucket’s beaches are amazingly enticing, and Nobadeer beach is no exception. Nestled along the island’s south shore, the vast, sandy beach offers plenty of sun and surf.
You can get to Nobadeer beach by shuttle (The Wave), cab, or foot. However, during the peak season, the shuttle is ideal since the parking lot at the beach can fill up pretty fast. Traveling from Nantucket to Nobadeer takes about 19 minutes.
The good thing about this beach is it’s near the Nantucket Memorial Airport, so you can see the planes when they touch down as you soak up the sunshine. Nobadeer beach is a popular haven for young adults looking to unwind.
Beach driving along the sandy shoreline is permitted from 6 am to 10 pm, and you’ll need a beach permit and a 4WD drive.
Porta-potties are available, and seasonal lifeguards patrol the beach from 9 am to 5 pm. Get something to eat at one of the food trucks while you have fun at the beach. It’s worth noting there’s a steep incline at the beach entrance, making it a bit difficult to access.
Nobadeer, also nicknamed “Brobadeer” by beachgoers, is a popular spot for adrenaline junkies. The energy can be eccentric, plus the beach is a dreamscape for picnics and beach parties. There are ample opportunities for seal watching, surfing, surfcasting, throwing a frisbee, and playing football and volleyball.
The high waves are perfect for surfing and other wind and water sports, but swimming can be risky. If you didn’t pack up your gear or your surfing lessons are a bit rusty, the ACK Surf School offers SUP and board rentals and on-site lessons.
