Surfside Beach is located south shore of Nantucket, about 3 miles from Downtown. Just drive along Pleasant Street and turn onto Atlantic Avenue, and into Surfside Road, which will lead you to the beach. You can take the in-season NRTA shuttle or cycle along the paved bike path. The shuttle leaves for Surfside beach every 40 minutes between 10:20 a.m. and 5:40 p.m.
Parking is available for cars and bikes at the beach, with free roadside parking if you come early. Beachside driving is prohibited on Surfside.
On-patrol lifeguards are on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in season on this beach. There are also various decent facilities on site, including a taco truck, restrooms, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms, trash bins, showers, and food kiosks—no wonder the beach is an appealing choice for beachgoers of all ages.
Surfside is typically a quiet, sleepy beach that comes alive in the evening when the powerful Atlantic waves and fierce currents draw in novice and pro surfers for surfcasting.
Explore the shoreline in the morning and collect a variety of seashells or fly a kite as you enjoy the calm breeze. Surfside is perfect for beach picnics, bike riding, swimming, fishing, watersports, and sighting sea lions.
The stunning dunes, pristine sands, and choppy waves draw beachgoers in droves, especially during the high season, with July and August being primetime. But popularity has a steep price. You might consider visiting the beach off-season in September to avoid the huge crowds and parking challenges.
The Surf has your appetite sorted; everything from mouth-watering burgers to mango lime quinoa salad.
